It’s time to whip up your brand’s welcome  email. Getting writer’s block? This guide will make it easy!

But first… why do we care so much about sending great emails?

The money is in your list!

On average, at least 30% of your e-commerce revenue should come from email marketing. So that first email you send needs to make a good first impression!

This is your opportunity to get readers hooked on your emails. You want be a “sticky” brand – with memorable messaging that inspires readers to click and find out more.

So your welcome email needs to hook your reader and get them clicking through to your site.

Let’s get it started.

1. WRITE A GREAT SUBJECT LINE

We all get loads of email everyday, so your subject line needs to stand out!

2. Make it FUN! ✨

Spice it up with puns, on-brand emojis, and unexpected phrases.

Check this subject line from Omsom’s. It’s a clever nod to their spicy East Asian flavors…

3. Make it CLEAR

If you’re delivering a coupon in your first email, you can use your subject line to remind folks about the discount inside (a great way to motivate folks to open that email up).

Like B.T.R Bar. If you’re receiving their welcome email, you know exactly what to expect…

4. Make it MATTER 💚

Why should a new subscriber care about your brand? What’s in it for

them?

Use a short one-liner to pique your reader’s curiosity. Like BelliWelli, who

gives subscribers their brand promise right in their subject line…

5. TELL US A STORY

After you craft that catchy subject line, you want to bring your reader around the campfire and tell your story. 🏕

This is where you share WHY you started your company.

This can be super short and snappy… no need to write your autobiography.

(People do love vulnerable real stories, so if you want to share more… go for it! Just ask yourself… what does my new customer want to read about? )

So… er, how do you write a story??  🤔

A beginning, middle, and end. (Let’s keep it simple!)

THE BEGINNING

WHY did you start your company? Your welcome email is the perfect place to tell new subscribers how it all started!

Were you overcoming a health challenge and needed a gluten free snack that didn’t taste like bark?

Were you disappointed with all the other adaptogenic fizzy drinks on the shelf?

Did you want to bring your grandma’s granola recipe to the masses because it’s breakfast nirvana?

Why did you start your company?

(Remember… this can literally be just a sentence or two.)

THE MIDDLE

It probably wasn’t all smooth sailing, right? Offer us a snippet of what you did to get your brand off the ground. Could be as simple as…

“We knew grandma’s granola was one-of-a-kind, but we needed to figure out how to make it shelf stable. 173 recipe tests later, and we created the perfect combo – a tasty, crunchy trifecta of nuts, seeds, and chocolate crisp. And we did it without any gross preservatives.”

As humans we love seeing others overcome a challenge, so don’t be shy… talk about the hard work you’ve put in!

How did you create your product?

(Give an interesting detail or anecdote that readers will love to find out about your brand .)

THE END

You created a magnificent product and now your customers can buy it!

But here’s the thing… in order for your readers to want to buy, you need to make it about THEM.

Why is this the perfect product for your customers? How will it make life easier? Tastier? Crunchier?

How does your product benefit your customer?

(What problem does it solve? What solution does it offer? How is it different from competitors?)

HOW TO SAY GOODBYE? ✌️

Time to wrap it up.

Here’s where you tell your reader exactly what to do next.

Use a clear link to shop, learn more, or whatever it is you want folks to do.

✨ Extra credit – make that call-to-action (CTA) button something FUN 💥

We’ve all seen a million BUY NOW buttons, but what about one that says… “Meet our chocoholic founders” or “Snag a deal” or “Get me that granola.”

Spice it up! Cuz life is short, and so is your readers’ attention span.

What  CTA will you put at the end of your welcome email?

Now put these all together,  and set up that automated welcome email.
