Project Umami is a wholesale food manufacturer based in Boulder, CO and we specialize in fermented plant protein products—Tempeh. Although we have several product lines we are working on including value-added tempeh and miso paste, we specialize in our raw tempeh line. Our uniqueness comes from the fact that we’re making our products using traditional tempeh making methods which allows us to retain the true health benefits and flavor profile of tempeh. This coupled with unique combinations of legumes grains and seeds leaves customers very satisfied. If you’re not familiar with tempeh, it is a fermented plant-protein made from legumes. Mycelium is grown around the cooked ingredients to ferment them which makes everything healthier, more digestible and tastier. The whole process / product also screams convenience in terms of still delivering healthy food. What’s cool about our product / tempeh in general is that it's a process that was developed in Indonesia by cultivating fungi from the air (similar to how miso, kimchi, sauerkraut, beer, wine and cheese were developed). If you are familiar with tempeh, our product is nothing like the products produced by the major tempeh brands in this country. Tempeh is predominantly also made from soy-beans and our tempeh is soy-free. To this end, from one point of view, we have very few competitors that are making a similar product. Any competitors we do have, we are continually working on positioning ourselves ahead of (e.g. Smiling Hara & San Diego Tempeh as well as all plant-protein products). Project Umami products are certified organic and we are a 1% for the Planet company.
